LJHS Auto Shop Students Build Battery-Powered Truck

Mr Davis's 2010 Auto Shop class got first-hand experience in green technology by converting a 1998 Ford Ranger to run on rechargable batteries.  The class removed the truck's gas engine, replacing it with an electric motor and a series of batteries mounted under the hood and in a special compartment in the bed of the truck.  According to Mr. Davis, the vehicle can drive approximately 30 miles between charges and is completely silent.

The LJHS all-electric Ranger will be featured in next year's Homecoming parade and other local events to showcase the student's work and publicize the program.

The Auto Shop's gas-to-electric vehicle conversion program depends on community support.  If you have a car you can donate to this worthy cause, or funds to help with the replacement parts, please contact Mr. Davis at kdavis@ljhs.sandi.net.
